The numbers are still not reported, but we currently have the rankings. Here we go!
Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters emerged champion, but that was expected, considering the market is relatively quiet. The only competition it had was Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, which opened last week and grabbed second place this weekend. The Internship retained it’s position in third, same as last weekend. That was considered good news, considering Elysium, second place last weekend, dropped to sixth place, while Kick-Ass 2, fourth place last weekend, dropped to seventh. Fifth place went to local Cannes award winning film Ilo Ilo, and sadly it could not beat yet another opener, The Purge, for fourth place.
At the remainder of the charts, One Direction: This is Us opened in 8th, a disappointing figure considering it’s US debut was huge, while The Conjuring dropped from 5th place to 9th place. The final film in the top 10 goes to The Smurfs 2, which dropped from 7th place last weekend.
This post will be updated when the actuals come in and are reported. Meanwhile, next weekend shall Planes and We’re the Millers releasing, the only two films to look out for next weekend.
